Mystique, the theme previously used on the site, pushed a new update that, although awesome, broke the majority of the customizations I’d made to the theme over the years.

Now don’t get me wrong, Mystique is a very powerful theme, and I would definitely suggest that anyone with a WordPress blog take a look at it.  The difference between the update and the previous version was so great, however, that I found myself having to rewrite the majority of my changes.

Add to this the fact that I could no longer edit or create new posts with the new theme, and I decided it was time for it to go.

I’ve therefore updated the site to use WordPress’ default “TwentyTen” theme which, as you can see, is a lot simpler and lean.  Its also easier on the eyes when it comes to reading, thanks to the serif font.

So, now that the site is back to its regular self, we can start the machine back up again.  Keep an eye open for some new Equanimity and Flash Imagination posts!

I hope we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled program shortly, in the meantime I apologize if the site changes looks while I complete the configuration.

We’re doing some very late spring cleaning…

(or ealier, it really depends on how productive we are. Which isn’t really productive considering we’re just sitting here, writing this message explaining why the site is down…

I mean really, who turns off a website? Isn’t the whole idea behind the internet the fact that it grants access to everything to everyone 24 hours a day? Or was it more just to network computers…?

Regardless, there’s no hiding the fact that the internet has grown into a global red light district. I mean seriously, how many of you are here because you thought this was an adult site? Come on, be honest, you saw “Fola” and didn’t take the time to read the rest, right? You were just so excited about seeing some porn that you just clicked right through, didn’t you? Ya perv… (or at least that’s what my girlfriend would say)

Though if everybody does it, does that make the few who don’t do it the pervs? And you know what else: I read somewhere that more woman look at porn than men now. I swear I read it somewhere…

So yea, who’s the perv now Stacey, huh? Last time I checked it was still majority rules, so stop looking at me with your judging eyes!

So yea, no site till Monday, sorry for the rant

First, the WordPress engine has been upgraded to the latest version.  This upgrade has been a long time coming, but hadn’t been applied yet due to incompatibility with certain plugins.  If you’re interested in details of the upgrade, you can view a quick video in the link below.  Its mostly back end changes that make my life easier, but hey, who doesn’t want to make my life easier, right?

WordPress 2.9 Features

Next bit of news, the Forums have been retired/removed/not there anymore.  Now this shouldn’t be a surprise as I’d explained how I planned to remove them a couple of weeks back.  I just want to say that the people at SimplePress have made a wonderful forums plugin, but when it came down too it, however, the forums were simply no longer useful for this site.

But what happened to all the cool stuff we talked about?

I did make a backup before uninstalling the plugin, so everything is still somewhere.  Also, I’ve moved the RAWR update posts to the blog, and you can now find them under the DnD Weekly Updates category (there’s also a link on the RAWR page).

Oh, and one more thing: I have another blog hidden somewhere on the web that I’ll be incorporating with Folaji.com.  I’ve been thinking about it, and although the subject matter of the other blog is not really related to this site, there’s no real reason why I can’t merge the two together and just create a different category on this site.  So, expect some different and interesting content in the coming weeks.

That being said, if you see something funny or improper on the site, please let me know!

And finally, a few notes about website updates.  On the day before the day before we left on vacation (that’s not a typo) WordPress announced the release of WordPress 2.8. I will be looking at upgrading the blog to this new version in the following weeks, though I expect the site will pretty much remain the same (upgrades mostly have to do with the site administration).  I may also have to upgrade the forum and run some tests on the different plugins, so expect a little site down-time and possibly some minor visual changes in the not to distant future.

Now, with that out of the way, I’ve updated the forums and changed the look a little.  Its possible that some links to the forums will have changed due to the update, so if you find a post that has a link in error, PM me so I can fix it.

Also, with the forums upgrade comes a new avatar system: Gravatars.  

A gravatar is a Globally Recognized Avatar that allows you to associate an avatar with your email address.  The service is free, and allows you to have one global image for all your forum/blog/social networking site accounts.  With the forums upgrade, Folaji.com is now fully compatible with gravatars, so I invite you to create a gravatar account today!

The next step, which will probably happen within the next couple of weeks, will be to upgrade the forums to Version 4.0.0.  Unlike the upgrade of WordPress, you should see a significant change to the Forums Page once the upgrade is installed.

Edit: I changed the site’s theme on Friday, so yes, the site should look different now

As for the website upgrade and Herman and Dugar posts: I’m sorry.  I’ve learned a very important lesson and that is to never promise that you’ll upgrade a website engine during holiday vacation since you never know what’ll happen (like catching a cold, buying an electric guitar, watching a couple of movies like the Simpsons Movie and a remake of Halloween ).

So the WordPress 2.7 installation is pushed back, and will hopefully happen sometime in January 09.  As for the Dugar and Herman posts, they will be online this week.  Both Fyrewind and Alisttair had provided their final parts a while back, so its just a matter of me posting them on the site.

Anywho, there’ll be some DnD adventuring tonight for sure, so for everyone in the adventuring party, see you around 7pm.

Oh, and Happy 2009 to everyone!

Now, about three weeks ago a new version of WordPress was launched: WordPress 2.7.  This new version contains cool new functions and features that I honestly can’t wait to try out, and I’m hoping to be able to take advantage of my holiday vacations to install it before the end of the week.  This means that the site may be unavailable or broken for most of Thursday and Friday (I expect to be drunk Wednesday ). 

Although the initial installation should be a breeze, I have done many customizations to the site, updating plugins and reinstalling customizations should take up the bulk of the work.  Content shouldn’t be affected, which is good, although I’m not 100% of the availability of the forums plugin (the minimum requirements demand an update to the site’s database engine, although I’ll try to set it up without…!)

So, hopefully, by the end of the week we’ll have a fresh new WordPress engine running the site.  In the meantime, I apologize for any issues during the update!
