Mystique, the theme previously used on the site, pushed a new update that, although awesome, broke the majority of the customizations I’d made to the theme over the years.

Now don’t get me wrong, Mystique is a very powerful theme, and I would definitely suggest that anyone with a WordPress blog take a look at it.  The difference between the update and the previous version was so great, however, that I found myself having to rewrite the majority of my changes.

Add to this the fact that I could no longer edit or create new posts with the new theme, and I decided it was time for it to go.

I’ve therefore updated the site to use WordPress’ default “TwentyTen” theme which, as you can see, is a lot simpler and lean.  Its also easier on the eyes when it comes to reading, thanks to the serif font.

So, now that the site is back to its regular self, we can start the machine back up again.  Keep an eye open for some new Equanimity and Flash Imagination posts!

I hope we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled program shortly, in the meantime I apologize if the site changes looks while I complete the configuration.

(or ealier, it really depends on how productive we are. Which isn’t really productive considering we’re just sitting here, writing this message explaining why the site is down…

I mean really, who turns off a website? Isn’t the whole idea behind the internet the fact that it grants access to everything to everyone 24 hours a day? Or was it more just to network computers…?

Regardless, there’s no hiding the fact that the internet has grown into a global red light district. I mean seriously, how many of you are here because you thought this was an adult site? Come on, be honest, you saw “Fola” and didn’t take the time to read the rest, right? You were just so excited about seeing some porn that you just clicked right through, didn’t you? Ya perv… (or at least that’s what my girlfriend would say)

Though if everybody does it, does that make the few who don’t do it the pervs? And you know what else: I read somewhere that more woman look at porn than men now. I swear I read it somewhere…

So yea, who’s the perv now Stacey, huh? Last time I checked it was still majority rules, so stop looking at me with your judging eyes!

One set of posts I want to bring back to the mix are my Blog Tool Reviews.  These posts detailed the different tools and services I commonly use on Folaji, and served to document helpful hints and tips for those out there who were looking to create their own blog or site.

The series, which originally started on this site, was moved to a new site a while back.  I was hoping to use this new site to post Software Development and IT posts, but quickly found out that I did not have the time to run two sites at once.

Nonetheless, I enjoyed writing these posts, which is why I will be bringing them back into the Folaji fold.

Ask Koji

A new series of articles I’m going to be bringing to the site are fan letter responses written from the point of view of my dog: Koji (a 3 year old female Basenji).  This is an idea I’ve been toying with for a while now, and I believe it’ll be fun to see how Koji would react to certain fan written letters.

Equanimity

Obviously one of the new series on the site will be Equanimity: the short story I’ve been preparing for almost the past year.  I expect we’ll see some posts for this story before the end of the month, so keep an eye open for them!

I have a camcorder!

Some Kind of Video Project

I’ve finally taken the plunge and bought a camcorder a couple of weeks ago.  I’ve since been walking around and taking random videos of things, but I’m looking for ideas for videos that I could post online.  As some of you may know, I had a blast making videos with friends while in highschool (take a look at this for an example, though I warn you that its both in French and pleasantly horrible  ), and with my new camera, I hope to start making videos again.

I’m not quite certain what I want to do just yet.  I have a few ideas rolling around in my head (mini web series or mini documentaries for example) but nothing concrete at the moment.   Regardless, once I’ve something ready to show, you can bet I’ll post it here.

In the meantime, if you have some ideas as to what I could do video-wise, feel free to share!

When I was growing up, Easter meant one thing: chocolates around the house, hidden in small nests made of shredded newspaper.  These chocolates were often times pieces of Smarties or M&Ms, which both my sister and I gobbled up as fast as we could find them.  Sure there was talk of crucifixion and resurrection, but coloured eggs, bunnies and chocolate were really all that was on our minds.

It didn’t really help that we were living in south-west Germany at the time.  We were located but stone’s throw from the birthplace of the Easter Bunny and a short drive north of the international land of chocolate (aka Switzerland).  Oh the abundance of dark, milk, and white chocolate we saw while visiting the famous chocolate factories in the region.  Chocolate was available in any form one could imagine (bunnies, eggs, nutcrackers, etc…), and I’ve no doubt my parents looked at this day with scared anticipation when thinking of the chocolate-powered monsters us children would no doubt become by the end of the day.

But I digress from the original purpose of my post…

What I really wanted to chat about today was the site and what’s going on with it.  Things havn’t moved much recently, and that’s mostly because I’ve been travelling a lot (thankfully only to warm sunny places).  Nonetheless, I do have some Flash Imaginations and netZooms waiting in the queue, so expect those to start showing up again shortly.  I’m also working on a new article series that would be published every other week just like netZoom.  I’m still working on it a bit, so expect more news on that in the coming weeks…!

Equanimity is coming along nicely, though my travels have slowed that down a bit as well.  I’m hoping to start publishing posts sometime in the next few months, (it’s looking like late-May right now).

With regards to the Tweet I posted last week, we (Alisttair, Ingram and I) are working together to set up a new site to which DnD content will be pushed.  The site is still in its infancy stages at the moment, though I expect it to be ready to go live within the next few weeks.

We’ll be moving over all DnD content, which means that, after while, the same content will be removed from Folaji.  I do, however, expect to keep everything on the site until the move is complete, so there’s no need to panic.  There’ll be plenty of advance warning as to when the posts will be taken down from here, and if all goes to plan, it should all coincide with change of layout on this side (if that doesn’t make it apparent enough, I don’t know what would )

In the meantime, the new site needs a name, and possibly a subtitle.  Any ideas?

Anywho, Flower Day aside, I wanted to put up a quick post to inform everyone that the first article in my new series promised last week will be out this Friday @ 12pm.  I’ve temporarily named the series netZoom while I consider other alternatives, though like most temporary things, it might become permanent.

So check it out when you get a chance, and let me know what you think!

Woa, what’s this? Where am I? Who am I?

If you’re asking yourself any of those questions – well, all except for the last one – don’t fret, you are most probably at the right place.

I’ve updated the site to WordPress 3.0 and am currently working on reactivating all the plugins on the site.  This means that for the next few hours, certain pages may look funny or be missing.

If you encounter such a page, don’t worry, I’m working on fixing it all up.  I’ll give a shout once everything is back to normal.

UPDATE 1: Well I’m done for the day.  Everything seems to be back up and running, we’ve got a new theme and some new functionality.  Check it out, and let me know what you think

UPDATE 2: I’ve had to dissable the contact page as it wasn’t working properly.  I’ll be looking for  areplacement, but in the meantime you need to reach me, you may do so by email (if you already have my address), or by commenting on a post.

So expect the site to change a bit as I test plugin and theme compatibility with this new version.

Super Squirrel - One of a handful of new pen drawings in the Folaji Galleries

As promised in my last post, I’m proud to announce a new feature on Folaji: Galleries.

Just as the stories section of the site contains written stories, the galleries section will contain images, drawings, and photos of anybody willing to contribute.  There isn’t much in there right now, but expect the number of images to grow with time.

To celebrate the launch of the Folaji Galleries, I’ve added a new album of drawings that I like to call PenArt.  You see, I have a pretty wild imagination and, when I’m bored or stuck in a daydream, I have a tendency to doodle.

Typically, the doodle begins as a few random strokes of a pen on a paper, and then my imagination kicks in and the image turns into something completely unexpected.  Its a fun, relaxing process that passes the time when I have nothing better to do (which is really not as often as I’d like ).
